The performer is blindfolded, and about 10m away is a kneeling man holding a board or an apple, and behind him a second man holds a bell and rings it gently, once. The performer then walks toward the noise- sometimes the holder and ringer move around before finally stopping- as the ringer rings the bell once every few seconds. After perhaps 30 seconds, the performer will kiyap (shout) and jump into the air for his spinning kick. He never fails to hit his target exactly, exploding the apple in midair with the force of his kick but never touching the holder’s hand. This demonstration is essential to the spirit of martial arts because it shows that the true martial artist has command of his entire body- how he moves, how he kicks, but also how he notices the world.
